Collecting and Measuring Data - A Must for Every Website Owner
By monitoring this and keeping a statistical log of traffic data it is very easy to build up a profile of your website and, if necessary change the way your website data is displayed.
There is a lot of software on the market that suggests it can give all of this information. It is important to understand that many simply do not provide sufficient data or are totally inaccurate or do not provide the data in an accurate, useful way.
Understanding the terminology is also important. Page Loads does NOT mean visitors!
Some analytical software does not differentiate between human and robot visitors to a web site. If, for example the Google robot is checking through your website (we hope that it does) the visits by the Google robot may be displayed as a visitor. This is obviously not the case and is not a true reflection of site visitors/potential clients.
Keep A Balanced View
Google has it’s own analytical offering which on the whole is a good product and offers some very useful information regarding keywords amongst other things however, we would always recommend using at least two analytical products to get a balanced view of your web site.
