Sharing Syndication
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds are a great way of exchanging content. RSS feeds benefit both publishers and readers. It benefits publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically and readers because it allows them to receive timely updates from favoured websites or aggregate feeds from many sites, straight to their desktops. It's also possible that someone that doesn't visit your website regularly, may decide to subscribe to your RSS feed, in which case you would be missing out if you didn't have one.
RSS and Blogs
More recently RSS has become a great way of marketing to the blogosphere. An RSS feed is a characteristic that gives blogs an advantage; when content is published on a blog it can be subscribed to and in that blog you place a RSS feed that can be promoted. Many blogs are syndicated through RSS feeds, becuase the content is syndicated, it therefore creates a bigger reader base that just people that are only on the blogs alone. The presence of an RSS feed also enables a website to to have an entry into blog and RSS search engines and directories like Google Blog Search - a regular website without an RSS feed will never get into Google Blog Search.
